Atlantis was a libertarian utopia; an artificial island nation set amidst the sparkling waters of the Caribbean, thriving thanks to the unfettered industry of its residents.

At least that was the intention. As with all similar projects the reality turned out to be rather more prosaic - and its ultimate fate moreover eerily reminiscent of that of its ancient mythological namesake.

Atlantean Currency:
 
Atlantis minted the coin below in 1970 to help raise its public profile and generate funds for construction of the Atlantis II. No other philatelic or numismatic material is known to have been released prior to the project's demise.
